Jackie Wilson
(born Jack Leroy Wilson 9-June-1934 in Detroit, Michigan
- died 20-January-1984 in Mount Holly, New Jersey,
at Burlington County Memorial Hospital.- the exact
cause of death was not revealed) On the 25-September-1975
Jackie Wilson collapsed from a heart attack while
performing at the Latin Casino nightclub in Camden, New
Jersey. Falling from the stage and striking his head on
the concrete floor, he stopped breathing and suffered
permanent brain damage. Emerging from a coma after three
months after which he was largely unresponsive. In 1977
Jackie Wilson was then institutionalised in the Medford
Leas Retirement Community. The Spinners donated
$60,000.00 for his medical care, but apparently much of
the money was spent on litigation as family members
fought over his estate. Due to the legal wrangling
Jackie Wilson was buried in an unmarked grave in Detroit
(This sad state of affairs was later corrected in 1987).
If that wasn't tragedy enough Jackie Wilson's son Jackie
Jr. was killed in 1970 during a burglary. Also Jackie
Wilson's daughters Sandra Wilson Abrams died from a
heart attack in 1977 and Jaqueline Wilson was an innocent
bystander when she was shot and killed during a drug
related drive-by shooting.
