Lionel Hampton Band

member for twelve months 1952-1953)
Moving to
New York in 1953, King
Curtis performed in local bands, and as a session musician, which he
continued to do right up until his death in 1971.
His significance in this area cannot be underated.
His saxophone can be heard on literally thousands of recordings, from ‘Yakety
Yak’ by the Coasters in 1958
to John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ album in 1971
