Clearly The Royals)

Trivia
The name The Royal Jokers was suggested by
Maurice King.
Norman Thrasher left The Royal Jokers to become road
manager for Hank Ballard & The
Midniters, later he
ended up replacing Sonny Woods in the group. He left The
Midniters in 1963 and became a soloist for a while,
before becoming manager for Joe
Tex. He ended up at CHESS
records where he promoted Ramsey Lewis, The Dells and
Reverand C.L. Franklin (Aretha's father). He then went
into independant promotions, ending up at Twentieth Century Fox where he promoted Barry White. From 1982 to
1989 he managed The Spinners.
In 1959 Thearon Hill joined The Four Tops to replace
army-bound Renaldo "Obie" Benson. He was on The
Four Tops Columbia recordings in 1960. When Renaldo
"Obie" Benson returned in 1962, Thearon Hill
became a house singer at The Twenty Grand Club then in
1964 he re-joined The Four Tops as their road manager, a
position he held until 1980.
Stanley Mitchell and Bobby Ruffin leave the group in the
late 1960's - Ruffin going off to sing with Charlie
Thomas' Drifters.
